The Bronco

In Norwood, as elsewhere, the Ford Bronco is synonymous with rugged off-road experiences. The Raptor

As the name implies, the Raptor has more snarl than its cousin, the regular Bronco. The 418-horsepower engine drives the Raptor to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds. The Raptor has more room than the regular Bronco, too, so you can take the kids to school in the morning before hitting the trails. The same high-tech gear in the Bronco makes an appearance here, too, including 12-inch touchscreens and an optional highly boosted stereo system. The Raptor's bigger engine provides 17 mpg in the 75-mph real-world test.

The Mustang Mach-E

The Mustang Mach-e electric vehicle provides from 250 to 320 miles of range, depending on the trim level and whether it's real-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive version also zooms to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, living up to its Mustang name. This SUV is quiet to operate and fun to drive on the roads of Albemarle. it's almost got sports car handling, too, gripping the skid pad at 0.92 g. Despite its sterling performance, it's also surprisingly practical, providing 60 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. Because part of the cargo space is lined with plastic, you can even use it as a cooler.

The Bronco Sport

This compact SUV is the "little brother" of Ford's lineup. It takes the three-cylinder engine of the Ford Escape, putting out 181 horsepower. The Bronco Sport is available in five trims, the top two of which can come with bigger, more powerful engines than the standard. The three-cylinder standard engine needs 8.2 seconds to reach 60 mph, while the larger version with 245 horsepower reaches that speed in 5.9 seconds. Further, even with its smaller size, you don't have to sacrifice much in terms of cargo space. Where the Bronco Sport truly shines, however, is in fuel economy. The smaller engine achieves 33 mpg during real-world 75-mph tests, and the larger version makes 26 mpg.

The Escape

The Escape's fuel economy is as good as that of the Bronco Sport, largely because it has the same engine. Even with the upgraded engine, which is a turbocharged four-cylinder power plant that makes 250 horsepower, the Escape still reaches 28 mpg in real-world tests. The acceleration to 60 mph goes by in 7.7 seconds with the three-cylinder motor. With the upgraded engine, it gets there in 5.8 seconds. That's among the fastest of any compact SUV.
